Summer Allen-Portsche, PhD
Dr. Summer is a licensed psychologist specializing in anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders and body image concerns, family issues, grief and loss, intimate partner violence, OCD, PTSD, relationship concerns, spirituality, and trauma.
She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2008 and completed extensive training working with children, adolescents, adults, families, couples, and groups. She later joined the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
During her time at UNL, Dr. Summer provided counseling to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students (typically ages 17–55) across a wide range of concerns and levels of severity. She gained extensive experience in crisis intervention, consultation, outreach, and prevention, while maintaining active clinical care. Her work ranged from outpatient therapy to facilitating hospitalizations and supporting individuals with both everyday stressors and severe, persistent mental health concerns.
She also served on the university’s Eating Disorders Treatment Team, collaborating in an interdisciplinary setting to provide comprehensive care, and coordinated services for international students and study abroad programs. In addition, she contributed to the university’s Cultural Competence Committee and served as Doctoral Training Coordinator, supervising and training graduate students and predoctoral interns.
Dr. Summer provides individual, couples, and family therapy with clients across the lifespan. She values the unique changes and challenges that come with each stage of life and considers it a privilege to support clients on their path toward growth and healing.
